Store Standoff in La Crescenta

LA CRESCENTA (CNS) - A man, possibly armed, holed up in a cellular phone store in a shopping center in the unincorporated La Crescenta-Montrose area tonight, prompting evacuations of some stores and orders to shelter in place at others.

The possibly-armed suspect barricaded himself at around 4 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless store in the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard between Raymond and Rosemont avenues, according to a deputy at the sheriff's Crescenta Valley Station.

California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County sheriff's  deputies were blocking off traffic in front of the shopping center, and armored  sheriff's vehicles and a SWAT team were on the scene, according to broadcast reports.
