SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — An embattled state senator says he hopes to work with his fellow lawmakers despite an ongoing federal investigation and a bitter finger-pointing exchange with Senate leaders.
No charges have been filed against Democrat Ron Calderon, who denies wrongdoing.
In a statement to The Associated Press before the Legislature reconvened Monday, Calderon says he is eager to work with his colleagues.
A leaked FBI affidavit alleges that he accepted nearly $90,000 to influence legislation. In his court filing responding to the leak, Calderon says he was asked to wear a recording device in a failed attempt to implicate two fellow Democrats, Senate leader Darrell Steinberg and Sen. Kevin de Leon.
Both say they've been told they are not targets of the investigation. Calderon has since been stripped of all committee assignments.
