CHINATOWN (CNS) - Electric lines failed near a Chinese New Year's Day parade in Chinatown today, blacking out the immediate area.
But it was not clear what caused wires to fall just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Hill and Alpine streets in Chinatown. The 115th Annual Golden Dragon Parade to mark the Chinese New Year was just wrapping up there, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
No injuries were reported and a Department of Water and Power crew was summoned to make repairs, Humphrey says.
About 800 DWP business and residential customers were without electricity, and wires were down ``pole to pole,'' said DWP spokesman Albert Rodriguez. He said crews were en route and would have service restored within 10 hours, or probably sooner.
