Be careful what you eat during a government shutdown.
A former FDA official says if the furlough continues, he has concerns about certain foods that need to be as fresh as they can be.
William Hubbard says you should be very careful about some foods, like seafood, fruits and vegetables, especially if they come from countries with poor sanitation records.
Watch out for imported fish, such as shrimp, tilapia and salmon - and be cautious with any brand of cheap, frozen fish.
He says it's best to stick with domestic products, and double check the freshness of fruits and vegetables you pick up at the market.
